This is NOT a "recycled" image from our previous auction. What you see is what you’ll get.  GUARANTEED!) Never has an album cover depicted to such a perfect degree how the album should be listened to. Within Bob Marley’s shadowed gaze lies introspective contemplation spawned from illicit illegal substances flowing through his lungs. This is a cannabis album. Plain and simple. The mood is set perfectly to sit back and relax. To bask in the comfort and carefree mindset that weed loans to you. It’s taken me a long time to really appreciate Bob Marley. Even after experiencing weed, I never caught the whole obsession people have with him. So for a long time, I’ve written him off as an overrated musician that potheads love. A musician that validates having no knowledge of the genre he represents (reggae) outside, well, Bob Marley. I’ve played his albums over and over again over the course of the last three years, but as it turns out, I never looked in the right place. Exodus always caught my attention with “Three Little Birds”, the one Marley song everyone knows. But as it turns out, Catch a Fire is the man’s masterpiece. The mood is completely consistent, the songwriting at its height of virtuosity, the instrumentation just similar enough from track to track to allow a feeling of harmony throughout the 45 minute length, and Marley’s vocals and lyrics capturing everything right with the world. It’s a liberating feeling to behold. A sort of oasis within turmoil. Something to ease away pain and give the listener a little salvation in their fucked up lives. This is why Bob Marley is so well-respected and loved throughout. Or at least, that’s how I see it. Just take a listen to “Stir It Up” and feel the absolutely cerebral connection the music makes with your brain. How the sounds play with your auditory senses. It’ll blow your mind wide open.  (EXCERPT FROM AN ANONYMOUS ONLINE REVIEW AT RATEYOURMUSIC.COM) For its extraordinary contribution to the modern music, superb production, craftsmanship, fine musicianship, revolutionary significance and influence it exerted on numerous generations of musicians, writers and general public, or for some other innate quality, this album was voted one of top-200 albums of all time in one of the largest poll of critics, music reviewers, professionals and producers ever organized: the poll, which was conducted by Paul Gambaccini, legendary BBC Radio A&R man, surveyed more than 50 top music professionals (including Roy Carr, Jonathan Cott, Robert Christgau, Cameron Crowe, Chet Flippo, Ben Fong-Torres, Charlie Gillett, Greil Marcus, Murray the K., Lenny Kaye, Bruce Morrow (a/k/a "Cousin Brucie"), Tim Rice (of "Jesus Christ Superstar" and "Evita" fame), Lisa Robinson, Robert Shelton (who wrote liner notes for Bob Dylan's first album), Ed Ward, Joel Whitburn, Pete Wingfield, etc.). For more details, see: "Critics Choice: Top-200 albums" compiled by Paul Gambaccini, Omnibus Press, Library of Congress Catalog No.7855565 (or click here  for the complete album listing) IN OUR HUMBLE OPINION OF THIS ALBUM: THIS IS AN INCREDIBLE, UNBELIEVABLE ALBUM. NOTWITHSTANDING MARLEY'S FANTASTIC SONGWRITING AND VOCAL DELIVERY, THE ALBUM IS A PROVERBIAL “BASS ARTISTRY 101” COURSE FOR ANY PROSPECTIVE BASS-PLAYER. JUST LISTENING TO BASS PLAYING AND RHYTHM SECTION INTERPLAY ON THIS ALBUM IS A JOY UNTO HIGH HEAVENS.  THE WAILERS ARE 50 FINGERS ALL CONNECTED TO A SINGLE BRAIN OF ITS CREATOR. And, finally, if this is of any relevance (and we do not claim that it is) "Catch a Fire" is an important  entry in my personal top list. Other entries on our top-15 list (in no particular order) include Otis Redding, Love, Sam Cooke, Dexter Gordon, Can, Tim Buckley, Byrds, James Carr,  Stooges, Five Royales, Eric Dolphy,  Everly Brothers, Richard and Linda Thompson and  Muddy Waters) The PROMOTIONAL, RADIO STATION-, AUDITION OR DEMONSTRATION COPIES AND RELEASES (such as the one we have here) were often distributed among the radio stations before the record was released to the public, sometimes as much as four months ahead. These records are generally considered to be the "first among equals", which is to say the VERY FIRST generation and the VERY FIRST pressings of the particular title; a PROTOTYPE and the earliest known official pressing of the record. Among the promotional releases, those which come with publicity kits (various packages comprising of photo inserts; letters of introduction from the label; typewritten biographies and/or discographies, corporate memos, decals, badges and alike) are generally recognized as the earliest, and most important specimens of a given title; literally and figuratively, the templates from which all subsequent copies followed. Some publicity kits are commanding astronomic prices on today’s collectors’ market. A few light abrasions (probably just sleeve scuffs inflicted in storage over the years) ARE VISIBLE, but they appear fairly  insignificant relative to the overall condition of the vinyl, and are only moderately visually distracting. For most part, the vinyl looks impeccable, without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new. (a) The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording! (b) The album comes with the promo-only booklet (c) Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!! · THE COVER THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++). The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover: - Cover has a few visible wrinkles along the seams (a common problem with almost all surviving copies of this album) - Cover has some visible fraying/tattering around the (former, now removed) metal rivet/hinge on the left side - Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3 - Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging. - Visible shelf wear noted on the seams NO OTHER VISIBLE FLAWS AND IMPERFECTIONS ON THE  COVER POSTAGE & SHIPPING: We offer THREE postage rates for both Domestic and International Mail: Media Mail, Priority Mail and Express Mail for domestic, and First Class, Priority International Mail, and Express International Mail for international orders.
